Good morning, pastors, leaders, brothers and sisters in Christ. My name is Re Gal and I am one of the twelve (pun intended) who graduated from Disciple Gold this year.
My journey with Disciple course started in 2007, 2 years after I moved to Kuching. Back then, Disciple Red was still called Disciple 1; and I was still childless and enjoyed all its accompanying privileges (eg free time, freedom of movement and so forth). The same cannot be said now :D
When I joined Disciple Red, I knew that we had to complete 34 lessons and was only allowed to miss 4 classes. What I didn’t know was the rigor of the course – we were sometimes required to read through the whole book of the Bible (eg all 42 chapters of Job) in 5 days, and then attended the weekly 2.5 hours group study for further dissection of the book.
Punishing as it sounds, I enjoyed the course as I was able to scan through the whole Bible in 34 weeks, learn about the background and history of the books, and saw the common theme running through them. Another bonus of the course is - with over 30 weekly meetings, friendships blossomed. I started to make friends in this foreign land, and Kuching became more like a home for me.

When the idea was first mooted to do a follow-up from the 2014 Israel trip with fellow pilgrims, I jumped at the opportunity and committed myself to it without any hesitation.
What would the trip mean to me personally? Would it help me understand the New Testament more fully as I read? Would I be able to marvel our Father’s world even more? Would I have a good time?
So, on 19 April 2015, a group of 26 pilgrims began our pilgrimage. The trip started with us almost missing the connecting flight from Istanbul to Thessaloniki, but by God’s grace we were able to get on the flight in the nick of time.
What did I expect to see in Thessalonica? The name is so familiar in the New Testament as Thessalonians. After the trip, I re-read the first letter of Paul to the Thessalonians. I found that I could understand it much better and appreciated how despite the opposition he had, Paul expressed his thankfulness and defended himself against opposition to his ministry. Not only that, he encouraged new Christians to stand firm in their new faith and resist the pressure to succumb to their former pagan ways. We also visited Berea and saw the Bema, which is an elevated podium from where Paul preached.

Sometime in March 2014, I saw in the church bulletin that there would be a short term mission trip to Cambodia in December. I had never been to a mission trip but before making any further decisions, I went home and prayed to God asking him for His guidance to join this mission trip. My parents were also very supportive of the idea so a few days later, I informed Pastor Charles that I would be joining the team.
The first day of our journey was kind of frustrating as we missed our flight from KL- Phnom Penh and had to camp overnight at the KLIA2. Thank God we had our sleeping bags!
